What’s going on in and around Clarksdale and/or Coahoma County…and beyond! (VIDEO WITH POST!)
Juke Joint Festival 2011 has finally arrived! There is great anticipation for this multi-faceted event in Clarksdale. The festival coordinators describe the festival as “Half Blues Fest, Half Small-Town Fair and All About The Delta!.” Events start taking place around Clarksdale as early as Tuesday, April 12 and will continue through Sunday, April 17. Roger Stolle of CATHEAD and Nan Hughes of Pharr Brothers Advertising have been working tirelessly to make sure this is a successful event for everyone.
Click on the JUKE JOINT FESTIVAL EVENTS below for an up-to-date list of everything going on. We have listed below a few events we think are noteworthy and worth checking out. However, we will be trying to attend everything. Yeah, right!!! Impossible.
REMEMBER, The Delta Bohemian will have a TENT during the festival on Saturday so drop by to say hello! The Clark House will be sharing a spot with us. PLUS we will be doing water demonstrations on the half hour and we will hand out free glasses of KANGEN Water™. Come lounge around a be bohemian with us.
BOHEMIAN SCENES: check out this week’s collection of photos taken out and about including the Photography Exhibit Opening at the Delta Blues Museum of the outstanding book MISSISSIPPI: STATE OF BLUES by Photographer Ken Murphy and Writer Scott Barretta. The Delta Bohemian picked up a copy of this outstanding book and enjoyed an evening spent with Ken and Scott.
The Delta Bohemian’s also paid a visit to 308 Blues Club in Indianola and met the very fine Mario Strong, his wife Maegan and his gentle father, Lemorris Strong, along with several more fine folks.

A quote from a friend of The Delta Bohemian about this unique duo he saw in New York City recently:
“Just saw Habib Koite and Afel Bocoum in the Acoustic Africa performance at BBKings in NYC last night. It was one of the best musical nights I’ve ever had. When we created the Acoustic Africa CD, I didn’t really anticipate how the music would come to life in such a powerful way.”
