CONGRATS to Bubba O’Keefe, welcomed as Clarksdale-Coahoma County’s new tourism director at the Coahoma County Tourism Commission’s monthly board meeting Wednesday, December 12, 2018. He’ll start January 1st.
Anyone who’s visited “The Crossroads” in the past two decades probably knows Clarksdale-native Bubba O’Keefe, either by name or face. When I used to visit here in the late 1990s, I considered him to be the unofficial “ambassador” of Clarksdale. Since then, he’s been very involved with tourism (small “t”) efforts as well as downtown revitalization — from co-founding Juke Joint Festival to building overnight accommodations such as the Lofts at Five & Dime, Sunflower Lofts and Traveler’s Hotel. He was also responsible for putting Cat Head Delta Blues & Folk Art, Hambone Art & Music, Rock & Blues Museum and Yazoo Pass into our current buildings. He has excellent contacts within the international tourism community, has been volunteering as a tourism promoter for the Commission recently and was instrumental in bringing the launch of the Americana Music Triangle to Clarksdale a couple years back.
Bubba will report to our updated-and-energized Tourism Commission board of Al Jones, Wilhelmenia Newson, Bill Gresham, Madge Howell and yours truly.
2019 is going to be a BIG year for Clarksdale, Mississippi, blues and tourism, y’all! To quote our Tourism web site: visitclarksdale.com. Visit early and often.
