How often have we thought or said that there is nothing for kids to do around here? Too often! Well, there is a bit of a solution right here in Coahoma County.
The Coahoma County Youth Outreach (CCYO) program, housed in the old Expo center at the fairgrounds located at 1150 Wildcat Drive, provides recreation opportunities six days a week. Hours of operation for the Coahoma County Recreation and Expo Center are Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., with holiday hours extending until 9:00 p.m.
This program is for everybody in the community and it is affordable, said Ben Earnest, Director of the Youth Outreach program. The annual cost for an individual is only $25 for the entire year; a family of three is $65 with nominal increases for each additional family member
The Delta Bohemian was thrilled to attend the free-throw contest held this past Saturday at the center. We interviewed Earnest, a few kids, and two parents—Raquel Williams and James Washington—about the program. What impressed us most was the kids’ enthusiasm for the program, their adherence to the rules and order, and the respect they showed to others—kids and adults alike!
Please stop by the center and pick up a Membership Information packet, along with an application. The new recreation center is a real answer to the hopes and prayers of so many Coahoma Countians.
PLEASE check out the short video displaying how kids and parents feel about the center!
