Standing in a Mississippi Delta Bathroom at Midnight

The Delta Bohemian at his vato loco’s farm--behind the levee where the old Mississippi River ran--in a Thoreauesque non-posed pose pontificating about the very things that eke out at Midnight--the spontaneous “Pontificating hour!” Communing with behind-the-levee nature is the grist for the Midnight Musing Hour.

Standing in a Mississippi Delta Bathroom at Midnight.

She is perched on her stool facing away from her Vanity with nothing on but a loosely draped towel after having just gotten out of the bathtub. He is in boxers and a long sleeve shirt facing her while rocking side to side from foot to foot as he is apt to do when he has had a libation or two and the loquacious spirit moves him to spontaneously pontificate orally!

Eagerly she says to him, “Don’t Lose It! Keep going!”

“Alright. What was I talkin’ bout?”

“STOP IT!!!”

“Alright! God’s Grace…and I’m pretty woe out and tired so I don’t know if I can do it with the same…vigor…as I did earlier.” He hesitates.

“C’mon. God’s Grace.”

He begins to speak as if skiing down a mountain, skirting back and forth around the gates as he moves from foot to foot, eager to get it out. To not lose it. With purpose he continues…

“But, anyway…We can’t understand God’s Grace until we need it. And, we don’t HAVE God’s Grace until we need it. So, if you never hurt you never need God’s Grace. And if you don’t get God’s Grace then you can’t grow as a human being. Your soul cannot be expanded. Your spirit cannot be touched and enriched. And you can’t reach out and touch and be touched and have a relationship with the Creator of the Universe…the person…the ancient of days, the person that always was.

How is anything always was?

Anyway…Without that Grace we can’t be who He needs us to be. And, the reason we need to be like Him and like His son, who died for us, was because that’s how God created it. He made us to love. And He IS love.
So our purpose on this earth is to figure out how to tap into Him relationally, and then to take HIS Grace and extend it to others so that their life temporally is blessed and eternally they also will reach back to God completing the pyramid. But, we can’t extend Grace if we don’t get Grace. And we can’t get Grace unless we have needs and need Grace ‘cause Grace is unmerited favor. Grace is something that we don’t deserve, but God gives us because He is love and because He is good.”

“Yes….”, she whispers.

“So, we can’t bless others, really, until we have needs that get met only by God or His hands extended, which is through other people.”

He trails off with his last sentence, stops moving and looks away and down.

She is awestruck and states, “That’s incredible. That’s incredible.”

He says quietly while looking away with a slight hint of a smile, “I’m an idiot.
