RUST Restaurant in Clarksdale at the Shack Up Inn
By POOR WILLIAM CLARKSDALE, Mississippi – VIDEO and PHOTO GALLERY It’s old; it’s new; it’s real! Rust ain’ just about oxidation; RUST the Restaurant is all about the Delta and it’s all about rustic-cool! RUST opened its doors over six years ago in downtown Clarksdale. In fact, I was privileged to have been a part of its advent as a bartender. But, RUST recently cemented its iconic Delta status when it reopened at the world-renowned Shack Up Inn at Hopson![foothumbnailgallery id=”4607″]Clint Davis, local businessman and categorically one of the finest men I have ever known, opened the restaurant with Randall Andrews—local chef, artist, troubador, and gad-about-town in March 2008! The pseudo-sylvan Delta-specific eating and drinking spot met the dining and relational needs of both locals and tourists! The restaurant closed it doors a little over a year ago right after Juke Joint Festival, but was soon acquired by some of the principals at the Shack Up Inn. The Shack Up Inn’s Guy Malvezzi, previous RUST manager Laura “Effie” Barnaby, and my good friend and local artist Joey Young are all at the helm of the recent re-creation along with the most excellent chef and always optimistic Allen “The Pig of Happiness” Johnson! Also, my daughter Galilee Dawn Howell is contributing her service and bartending skills to the new venture. I am jazzed that RUST has reopened at one of my favorite hangouts and a spot where I often ride my bicycle after checking in folks at the Clark House Inn. RUST and the Shack Up Inn are the spot to be, as the music is always real, the food is always sumptuous and the company always eclectic! Check it out! Tell ’em Poor William sent ya!
