It is rare in today’s sound-bite culture to slow down and purposefully utilize the time and to add feet to an inclination to really understand something—even a something of exquisite value. The following twelve minute recording is exquisite in originality, expression, spontaneity, serendipity, yea, even providentially.
Twelve minutes is a long time for a video, even on the quirky, non-rule following Delta Bohemian® website, but…the Mississippi Delta, the Delta Bohemian®, and anything inimitable does not always, even if imprudent, follow societal norms. All that to say: the following video pieced together spontaneously and with no forethought, begs to not be shortened.
Anthony Wilson and Matt Rollings graced the eponymous Clarksdale White House Home Concert Series with a majestic, unrehearsed performance in the living room with 50-plus awe-struck listeners. The two heralded and oft-nominated musicians share their remembrance of a fortuitous meeting at a music camp as children and their mutual admiration for Oscar Peterson and love of the “medium swing/ballad” song “The Days of Wine and Roses.”
Listen to their recollections from long ago, followed by an extraordinary performance of “The Days of Wine and Roses.” Please enjoy a clip from a fine, enjoyable evening…
A special thank you to our friend from San Francisco, Gordon Yamamoto, who was in town and able to attend the concert. Gordon shared his footage with us from the special night.
We would also like to thank the Managing Editor of the Clarksdale Press Register Josh Troy for attending the event and writing about it.
