Who May Dwell in the Lords Sanctuary?

PONTIFICUS MINIMUS OPINES

Old Pontificus and his ignoble brother, Poor William, have been trying to shore up what remains of their carbon-based, quickly deteriorating selves. They have been inspired by an adventurer, Dave Cornthwaite, who serendipitously arrived in our Delta midst via a standup paddleboard. He has been standing on this board since leaving the source of the Mississippi River in Minnesota.

Pontificus is attempting to work on his whole self: mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual. It ain’t easy! Prior to entering the gym this morning, Pontificus realized that he had not read his bible or spent any time on the spiritual. He grabbed his Bible in the front seat of his car and did what many Christian’s do in a time of need or when in a hurry: he flipped open to the middle of the Bible, where he knew Psalms and Proverbs were located. Both provide short, pithy, truth-riddled chapters designed to make us better people, to make us more aware of God’s awesomeness, and to teach us how to rely on God when times get tough, and they do.

The Bible flipped open immediately to Psalm 15, a five-verse psalm, which begins with King David’s question,

LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary?

      Who may live on your holy hill?

 The next four verses answer the shepherd’s question regarding who will dwell in the Lord’s sanctuary:

V.2-5

He whose walk is blameless

      and who does what is righteous,

who speaks the truth from his heart

and has no slander on his tongue,

who does his neighbor no wrong

      and casts no slur on his fellowman,

who despises a vile man

      but honors those who fear the LORD,

who keep his oath

      even when it hurts,

who lends his money without usury (charging too much interests)

      and does not accept a bribe against the innocent.

He who does these things

      will never be shaken.

 

Wow, a pretty darn good recipe for doing unto others as we would have them do unto us. Pontificus is going to put these verses on his bathroom mirror, so he can see something more effectual than his own hypocritical mug every morning and evening.
