Rarely do I visit the Mississippi Delta town of Greenwood without stopping by Turnrow Book Company on Howard Street. If Poor William is with me, it’s imperative, but we always make a pact not to go crazy buying more than we can afford. Not only is the space beautiful but the selections of books, gifts and good eats will make one start reaching for the wallet. Turnrow should be on all Top Ten Delta Destination lists.
Under the guidance of co-founder/proprietor Jamie Kornegay, the bookstore is a formidable draw for the river town. I bet every person on the cast and crew of The Help–while filming in Greenwood–hung out here. There is a cafe upstairs. They have excellent literature selections. Gifts galore. Book signings and other events. And now, they can boast a nationally published author.
Kornegay SOIL book launch is Tuesday, March 10 at 5:30pm in his beloved book shop. The early buzz says this Simon & Schuster tale will be a best seller.
Goodreads.com introduces the novel with the following opening paragraph: “A darkly comic debut novel by an independent bookseller about an idealistic young farmer who moves his family to a Mississippi flood basin, suffers financial ruin and becomes increasingly paranoid he’s being framed for murder.”
I don’t know about you, but I’m in. Jamie lives here. Knows here. Loves here. AND, he’s a passionate bookseller and an excellent writer. Hey, Jamie, please reserve our copy for The Delta Bohemian®. Congratulations and may your book soar. See you and Kelly March 10th!
