Music strikes a chord whether with Jose in Downtown Sydney or in the Blues Capital of the World – Clarksdale, Mississippi

CLARKSDALE, MISSISSIPPI –  VIDEO IN POST  – It’s a dreary day today in Clarksdale, smack dab in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, and all is cold, wet, icy, barren and the wind is blowing. Why not take today to remember Australia and how it continues to affect my senses. I hope you take pleasure in reading about and then watching a video of something that happened to me in Downtown Sydney as well as in the Delta Bohemian® Shop in Downtown Clarksdale.

It is funny to discover what draws Australia back into my heart, into a heart that will not easily forget how being in that far away land made me feel.

While listening to my Eric Clapton station on Pandora at the Delta Bohemian Gift Shop in Downtown Clarksdale, a song began to play amidst a sweeping up of a fallen light bulb from a ceiling at least 15-feet high. A guitar was playing sweetly with a faint mournful sound. “Sandy’s Painting” by Dave Beegle suddenly caused me to stop cleaning and take a look at my iMac.

How funny. From “Sandy’s Painting” to Portraits by Jose.

Portraits is the name of a CD given to me, spontaneously, freely, on the street in Downtown Sydney.

There was a guitarist playing amidst the urban shuffle and myself, a lone Mississippi Delta girl walking toward my love. The sound echoed down Pitt Street in a wistful hush. Suddenly I could think of nothing else…just like today in my shop.

The sky opened up as I arrived at Market Place. Off to my right a small crowd was gathered around some thing or some one, but ahead of me I saw him. Standing. Alone. Playing his guitar.

The next thing I recall was a car horn, honking, at me.

Not wanting to interrupt, I had dropped down and begun filming a musician named Jose whose haunting refrain in such a spectacular place took me over. Yes, I was in the street. A busy street in Downtown Sydney!

Well, I interrupted him.

Clothes. Vistas. Expression. But best of all, it was a connection.

Not Australia. Australians!

Take me back.

JOSE graciously gave me his CD titled PORTRAITS on a whim. In fact, as I was walking away from him after our introductions following the tune he played called “Sophie Can Fly,” he called after me, running, with his CD in hand. Thank you, Jose! Listening to your beautiful music has given me hours of listening pleasure.

Jose plays in a band called In Love With You. Jose also plays in a Marsala band. He wrote “Sophie Can Fly” for his young daughter, Sophie. All songs on the CD Portraits were written and recorded by Jose except “je suis seul ce soir”. I hope you visit his website and consider ordering Portraits.

CONTACT JOSE at jose.net.au or via email at jose@jose.net.au.

The Delta Bohemian has volumes of recordings of our local live musicians and artists and community contributors to our awesome town. Stay tuned. Subscribe. 2013 is gonna be coming at you – all you who love all things Mississippi Delta.
