Happy July 4th! We are proud to be Americans.
Friends, Bobbie and Paul Wilson, owners of WROX RADIO, have embraced this community of Clarksdale. They have made it their own and we are blessed by their continued enthusiasm for sharing great music, both on the air and out in the air, with the good folks in the Mississippi Delta.
On this particular night, June 26, 2016, WROX Radio sponsored a free concert along the banks of the beautiful Sunflower River at the new MLK Stage. Families were enjoying the unusually cool temperatures along with the light breeze which kept the mosquitos at bay. In general, the atmosphere was one of thankfulness and peace and good music.
The musical sounds were compliments of sixteen year old Christone Kingfish Ingram, the music prodigy living in our midst. Kingfish is a Friars Point boy but spends lots of time living in Clarksdale, too.
Enjoy two videos.
In the first video Kingfish plays “The Star Spangled Banner” followed by the beginning of “Hey Joe.” He no doubt has been influenced by our mutual good friend and playing partner in the past, Lucious Spiller. Lucious often dons apparel with the American Flag on his person and will break out with his guitar, impromptu, into the National Anthem, America the Beautiful, Greensleeves, Sound of Music, you name it, during a performance.
We used to listen to Kingfish (on bass and guitar) and Lucious play at Red’s and the New Roxy many, many times. The ever watchful Christone picked up much from Spiller who was a blessing to this young man. It warms my heart to see Kingfish playing a variety of music, impromptu, which helps illustrate his profound musical talent.
The second video includes three short clips of Kingfish from the night. All videos shot on a shaky iPhone.
God be with you, Kingfish, and may you continue to Soar As A Child Of God.
