New Downtown Clarksdale Hotel:
Clarksdale’s Got A Squeeze Box
Downtown Clarksdale has a new pad for Blues travelers. The Squeeze Box is owned by Delta Bohemian semi-fixtures–folks whose primary residence is not in Clarksdale, but they love the town and visit often–Mark and Sarah Benson. The Bensons live in Franklin, Tenn. They own a couple of buildings in downtown Clarksdale and have been regulars for years.
The Squeeze Box is a colorful, fresh, Delta-eclectic apartment located on E. 2nd Street in downtown Clarksdale. Manager John Magnusson and local artist Randall Andrews decorated the new 425 sq. ft., four-room, one-bedroom, fully furnished crib, which can be leased for as little as two days at a time by couples sojourning without kids or pets.
Having achieved notoriety and kudos as the guys who revamped Downtown Wine and Liquor, the artistic twosome was contracted by the Bensons to remodel the space now known as The Squeeze Box. Upon entering the way-cool apartment the crisp colors, clean lines and found objects all lend themselves to a Delta Cohesiveness that invigorates the senses.
“Mark said here are the–keys have at it,” Magnusson said. “So, we turned it into a rental property for tourists, another single-bedroom hotel for downtown.”
The apartment regularly lets for $125 a night with a two-night minimum on weekends, and only jumps to $150 a night during festivals and significant events.
Amenities? You bet! “We have a king-size bed, microwave, efficiency refrigerator, coffee pot, large kitchen, full shower and bathroom, Direct TV, ground-floor entrance, and we are in walking distance of everything downtown,” Magnusson said.
Clarksdale is fortunate to have another sweet place for Delta lovers to lay their heads. Check them out on Facebook and at the following two websites which feature many photos of the apartment: www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p920449 or
