Delta Plein Air Artists unite for the First Annual “Paint the Gateway to the Delta” plein air paint out and exhibition September 6-9, 2017 in Charleston, Mississippi, Tallahatchie County! Any artist or budding wannabe artist can participate. The host, Charleston Arts and Revitalization Effort (C.A.R.E.), posted an invitation on their facebook page which said “Come paint with us!” Since Chilly Billy and I have been bit by the paint bug, this invitation caught our attention big time!
Artists will meet and gather starting Wednesday morning then head outside to paint the rest of the day, and on Thursday and Friday. (See the Paint the Gateway Schedule below in the gallery.)
Wednesday, September 6th – Painting in the town of Charleston and at Delta View Farms
Thursday, September 7th – Painting at Peaceable Kingdom home of Laurie and Jackie Jones (This is an amazing spot! I used to ride horses here many years ago!)
Friday, September 8th – Paint the area of your choice
Gamblin Artist Oils is on board for this unique event and will be providing samples of their paints to participants. The “People’s Choice Award” winner announced on Saturday night at the opening reception for the exhibition will be presented with a full artist kit!
We have attended events sponsored by this innovative and active organization in the past and have always had a good time. If you do not want to join in with the other artists and paint then be sure to attend the Plein Air Exhibition of Tallahatchie County “Painting The Gateway To The Delta” to witness the newly created works of art and to help support C.A.R.E. in downtown Charleston. The exhibition will hang until October 1, 2017.
Chilly Billy and I have been taking C.A.R.E.’s “Adult Intro to Oil Painting” class taught by accomplished artist Carol Dunn Roark. I first met Carol many moons ago when she was my daughter’s art teacher. We drove every week from Clarksdale to the Valley Road where the Delta meets the hills for many years. Carol will be a participant in the Delta Plein Air Artists event. I am eager to see what she is going to paint.
