Whooooo-oooot! When I hear that call, I know it’s a Quapaw calling! This time dear friend and founder of Quapaw Canoe Company John Ruskey invited Poor William and me to join him at his table for the Helena Annual Chamber dinner. The keynote speaker this year was Clarksdale Mayor and friend Bill Luckett. Whooooooo-ooooot, count us in, Driftwood Johnnie!
The cocktail hour before the meal was festive and filled with enthusiasts for both our communities. The extraordinarily talented interior designer and marketer Marilyn Trainor Storey, newly ordained as Helena A & P Commission Director of Marketing & Retail Development (smart hire, Helena), has been bending the ears of Mayor Luckett and Helena Mayor Jay Hollowell. Storey sees the two cities partnering more and more in a total win-win for both locales.
Luckett’s address to the Chamber was outstanding and the room was hushed and hanging on his every word. He delighted the audience with all sorts of tales and stories and reflections from both a Mississippian point of view and a complete admirer of Helena and its history point of view.
My favorite quote from Bill’s speech completely captured his entire address to the eager business people from the dual Delta towns.

Needless to say, he received a standing ovation at the conclusion of his highly entertaining speech. We look forward to more collaborations between our sister cities across our Mississippi River beginning with the upcoming arrival of the Americana Music Triangle launch….TODAY!
