By unnamed Guest Bohemian
(Clarksdale, Mississippi)
Submission by a long-time local Clarksdale business man who quietly and beautifully puts his thoughts to pen and paper–sometimes in a song, sometimes in a poem. We are blessed that he would share this treasure with the Delta Bohemian®.
After reading a poem written by a terminally ill young girl at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, our Guest Bohemian writer thought a poem about a miracle would be what she or the family needed. He was inspired to write this piece while driving back home to Clarksdale from Memphis.
HOPE BECOMES FAITH
In the midst of all the darkness and the depths of this despair
I see a small but steady light; it’s an answer to my prayers
For the first time in a long time, my hope turns into faith
I feel a warm breath of calmness gently rolling off my face
So I just know there’s gonna be a miracle today.
When I have wavered and my patience was wearing thin
there was always some small message which brought me back again
It might be the sound of rain or the early morning sun
or even the power of a storm, or watching children run
These simple things gave me strength where weakness once had been
It took me to my knees and made me pray – for a miracle again.
The miracle may not save her, and only saves those like me
(but) a miracle is a miracle and this miracle is free.
The steady light grows stronger, but this is not the finish line
It’s the journey that restores me, and puts your heart next to mine.
There’s gonna be a miracle today.
