A recent trip to New Orleans found Billy and me wandering in an outdoor art market during the early evening hours. It was a magical place, a wonderland of light displaying artists and their unique creations.

We spent some time with a lovely young woman named Emily Renee, a gifted artist who specializes in handcrafted leather journals, leather jewelry and leatherwear. She was as captivating as her beautiful works of wearable and usable art.

It occurs to me over and over how important it is for us to support our local creative artists, be they visual, musician, writer, chef, photographer or leather designer. Meeting Emily made us feel a part of the small bohemian community of Frenchman Art Market. We connected with someone on a personal level and soon we bought a beautiful journal for Billy to take on his upcoming trip with John Ruskey on the Mississippi River. It was a perfect companion for his journey since I couldn’t go along.

This post reminds me of a topic that is dear to me….being a DELTA CONVICT. I enjoy speaking to groups about this topic! As Billy would say, “holla at ya girl!”
