More about Poor William’s Whims
POOR WILLIAM’S WHIMS (and yes, I am referring to myself in the third person here as do many preachers and politicians, but I do so with much irony and a sardonic grin on my face) seeks to share interesting quotes, funny thoughts and gestures, vocabulary words—not always defined (in the hope that the reader will look up the word if they do not know it), interesting bits of timely happenings–locally and around the world–while attempting not to appear self-absorbed and egotistical, “because he knows he ain’t all that!”

I did not major in journalism or in English; I am merely a lover of words, and one who believes that words matter. My erudite, learned grandmother, Mattie Louise Tomlinson, was fond of quoting Sir Francis Bacon, who said, “Reading maketh a full man, conference a ready man, and writing an exact man. <http://www.quotationspage.com/quote/2857.html> ”
By this Bacon meant that reading is imperative in forming a person into a thinking and conscience individual, that being in conference with people who care for us will help us be ready to tackle all that life brings our way, and in the practice and habit of writing, we will in fact become more exact, accurate, and assured of the truth that we should strive to present to others.
My selfish hope in pontificating weekly through the writing of Poor William’s Whims is that I will become more of an exact man, and along the way I hope that the reader of Poor William’s Whims will enjoy the banter, and will at least get an occasional chuckle and maybe even pick up some unknown, interesting information on the journey.
