Winter wheat sprouts verdant
Spring not far, yet unseen
Hope is lofty, but not restricted

A farmer’s knell; a hunter’s fell
A photographer’s delight
Tens of thousands cacklers rise into the night

Reticulated flappers
Intensify the gloaming
Orange tacks to black
As vespers rouse a groaning

Proud wings beating, never touching
Hoarse voices bleating, never rhyming
They bid the day adieu…
