Men! What Do They Need?

A Screen Capture of a NOTE in the iPhone of Madge Marley Howell

A Screen Capture of a NOTE in the iPhone of Madge Marley Howell

By Magical Madge

For going on three-plus years now, I have had in my iPhone the following Note (see image):

Respected Admired Wanted

Now why did I put only those three words into a Note on my iPhone with no explanation?

RESPECTED. A man wants this. He needs it. He craves it. He has to have it too. He works toward it. Every Day. Working to obtain that respect, for him, as an individual, as his own man. Remember, he is a thinking man. He aims to do his best and especially for those whom he loves and who bring meaning to his life, while knowing he can never give enough or all that he desires to, but knows he would, if he could, no matter what. Receiving respect. It sounds so simple, so easy. It’s not. It is an inherent need inside each of us to want it yet, oftentimes, unbeknownst to us, is our desire to give it. Male. Female. So, make it clear, be deliberate, even when it moves to the recesses of our psyche for reasons that are unimportant. Never forget to. RESPECTED.

NOBODY EVER LOVED ME
by John Ruskey from album “riverman”
©1998 Meow Music

Nobody ever loved me for who I am, for who I am, for who I am.
Nobody ever loved me for who I am, for who I am, hey, for who I am.

You say you love me, baby, you understand, spinning my hair with your free hand.
In the temple of emotions, I offered my trust.
Love the choice became love the must.
And run shadows run. And run shadows run. And run shadows run.

Nobody ever loved me for who I am, for who I am, hey, for who I am.
Nobody ever loved me for who I am, for who I am, hey, for who I am.

I thought I could hide in your beautiful eyes.
I thought I could ride this bed of lies.
Yes, I thought I could take good care of myself by putting my heart upon a shelf.
And run shadows run. And run shadows run. And run shadows run.

Nobody ever loved me for who I am, for who I am, hey, for who I am.
Nobody ever loved me for who I am, for who I am, hey, for who I am.

Well, who should I love first? You or I?
Who should I love first? You or I?
Mmmm. You are so beautiful. Yes, you are so beautiful.
And I, yes, I, I want to smash all the mirrors.

Nobody ever loved me for who I am, for who I am, hey, for who I am.
Nobody ever loved me for who I am, for who I am, hey, for who I am.

(Church bells tolling in the distance.)

ADMIRED. What does it feel like to be admired? To be held above others? To be praised? Could it be to be admired is not an easy thing either? Could it be it is much easier to let our shortcomings, our poor decisions, our choices in life that we wish we could have back, to do over, to let these past remembrances limit our ability to change? He must follow his passion, passion too often denied due to societal pressures or sideways glances, to stay within the confines of what is expected. So, let him. Let him let his heart lead him. Then relish in the admiration of seeing something, someone express the individual self that is aching to act. We are told we are unique, no other like us, nowhere. How can we not admire and celebrate the individual? ADMIRED.

YOU USED TO CALL ME ON THE PHONE
by John Ruskey from album “riverman”

You used to call me on the phone, now you don’t call me anymore.
You used to call me on the phone, now you don’t call me anymore.
Yes, you called me on the phone when I was home alone.
Now you don’t call me anymore.

Well, you told me that you loved me, now you don’t say it anymore.
Yes, you told me that you loved me, now you don’t say it anymore.
Yes, you told me that you loved me, always thinkin’ of me.
Now you don’t say it anymore.

Oh, Baby. Oh, Baby. Oh, Baby. Woah, Baby. Oh, Baby. Oh, Baby, oh, Baby.

Instrumental

Well, you told me in the morning, now you don’t say it anymore.
Yes, you told me in the evening, now you don’t say it anymore.
Yes, you told me all day long, now you don’t say it anymore.

Oh, Baby. Oh, Baby. Oh, Baby. Woah, Baby. Oh, Baby, oh, Baby.

WANTED. Who doesn’t want to be loved? Who doesn’t want to be desired or wanted? How wonderful does the touch from another feel, especially one whom you love, and whom you know loves you? The light touch of a finger, the pressure from a leg under a table, or while sitting on a couch, can translate much. And the deliberate touch, with an intentional purpose to make certain, and make no mistake, that the desired connection is not to be denied, is needed and acknowledged, all at the same time. It is a giving up and a taking. Who doesn’t want to embrace? Who doesn’t want to be embraced? The joy it can bring, feeling connected in a meaningful way, which takes us to a place where the heavens whisper hello. WANTED.

TELL ME
by John Ruskey from album “riverman”

Tell me that the sun will never rise
That light will never fill the starry skies
So I can watch the moon through your blinking eyes

Oh, hold me. I don’t want to fall asleep.
So afraid you’ll disappear through the sheets.
And to be with you is such a treat.

Tell the rooster not to crow at the break of dawn.
Tell the earth it can quit spinnin’ at half past one.

Mmm, ‘cause I, I could live in your arms, forever.
And forget about this big, mad world that we’re livin’ on.

Yes, I, I could live in your arms, forever.
And forget about this big, mad world that we’re livin’ on.

Yes, I, I could live in your arms, forever.
And forget about this big, mad world we’re livin’ on.

(Downpour of rain with claps of thunder.)

Anyway, that’s my two cents worth about what men want and need. You got any comments? 😎

  1. They need a Madge!

  2. FullGreer62 says:

Madgical, you are a very wise lady indeed.

  3. Stop! Madge you are turning my caveman compatriots into a bunch of metrosexual blabbering shemales. You give us way too much credit for slow creep up the evolutionary chain. FYI, your hubby will agree with you on these pages for one and only one reason; he craves one of the two things men need. The other is bar food.

Greer banged his head up in a car crash. Otherwise I don’t know what’s gotten into him.

  4. Oh! I failed to mention the percentages applied toward each of these words which signifies how much time each concept occupies the male mind, which I find beyond fascinating, especially my husband’s! Two are 2.5%, the other is 95. My guess is many (most?) women do not know this. It took me awhile to get it, but Chilly Billy enlightened me, and life has never been the same since! ;)))))
