In today’s world the distractions we face are immense. To focus on anything for very long is a challenge even for those not diagnosed with ADD/ADHD.

The television sits dark most days, the news is depressing.

Stacks of periodicals and mail pile up, the to-do list keeps getting longer.

Emails flood the inbox, where is that unsubscribe button?

Clutter in the house, one day everything will get organized.

Yeah, right.

Time. Precious time. Precious free time.

Our time on this earth is God’s gift. How do we spend our free time? What do we value?

The internet. The smart phone. The television. They can suck our precious time and rob us of nourishing, renewing and developing relationships.

My father reminded me over and over and over, to love God with all my heart and soul and mind and to love my neighbor as myself. He said that is all I really need to do; everything else will fall into place.

On the Delta Bohemian® we enjoy using our time to give “linking love.” When we write an article, we always look for where we can show more “linking love,” leading our readers away from our website and sending them to others.

A recent trip for some Memphis fun blessed me with new friendships, shored-up old relationships and reminded me how important it is to really take the time to relate to folks.

Take a journey with me…

Jeff Cox, Managing Partner of Saint Blues Guitar Workshop, helped bring this company back to where the brand belongs, Memphis, TN. Born and raised Memphian Greg Mitchell is their gifted guitar luthier with over 25 years of experience. Their storefront drew me in. Their spirit captivated me. New guitars. New friends.

Joe Nathan, owner of Consignment Music, has been selling used guitars and other instruments for over 24 years in Memphis. My friend, Gene Joe, owner of seven guitars, suggested I visit this shop to look for a guitar to replace my beloved Epiphone someone took from me without asking. Joe Nathan was proud to show me his storefront vending machine, which provides strings and such to musicians 24 hours a day. Old guitars. New friends.

The entire event wouldn’t have happened had MS Design Maven Marilyn Trainor Storey, owner of Maven in Coahoma in downtown Clarksdale, not introduced us all. Who else showed up at the reception for Kim Duease but Desoto Magazine‘s Associate Publisher Paula Mitchell and Editor Karen Ott Mayer, who recently featured Clarksdale in their newest issue with Elvis in the cover. Old antiques. New fabrics. Great press.

Lisa Patton, Katy Collier Creech, Elise Norfleet Crockett, and my cousin Cary Coors Brown, all lifelong friends, and I spent an evening enjoying Crosby, Stills & Nash at the Orpheum Theater. The men deliver strong messages. Pay attention to the last line Crosby and Nash sing in the VIDEO. Old music. Old friends.
