Chilly Billy Introduces our new book Wrestling with Wisdom at the Crossroads (VIDEO)

In this impromptu video, Chilly Billy introduces our new book Wrestling with Wisdom at the Crossroads. The article below is by Magical Madge.

Watch and Listen as Chilly Billy talks about the what, when, how, and why of the book, and especially, the who it is for.

Who would have known that more than sixteen years ago, when Chilly Billy and I launched our very first Delta Bohemian website on Wix, we would one day find ourselves here?

Back in 2010, my high school friend Cal Carter reached out to me and said,

“Madge, I love the content you and Billy are putting up on The Delta Bohemian, but Wix isn’t the platform for you. Your content doesn’t archive.”

This was right about the time Blogs were just becoming a hot topic. I didn’t even know what a blog was!

Out of the goodness of his generous heart, Cal offered to build us a WordPress site, and off we went. We owe our online presence to him. How fitting, then, that when we published Wrestling with Wisdom at the Crossroads, Cal was the very first person to purchase the book and to write an Amazon review! You have always been a loyal supporter of our work, Cal. Thank you. You bless us.

If you obtain a copy of the book, I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to begin at the very beginning. Read the Dedication, Quotes, Preparatory Note, Introduction, and Devotional Companion first. These sections are brief, but they offer essential guidance on how to understand and use the book.

From there, the heart of the book unfolds in the Aphorisms, arranged in 31 Chapters (pages 9-215), followed by the Poems (pages 217-322), which I illustrated. These sections are ripe for reflection and for sharing with others. Read them aloud.

The book concludes with an Afterword and Acknowledgements.

Each morning during our devotional time together, Billy and I select a Malachi Montroy aphorism from the chapter corresponding to the day of the month, along with a poem. We read them aloud and talk through how they apply to our lives on that given day. This often leads to rich discussion, especially following our Bible readings from Psalms, Proverbs, and the New Testament, along with whatever other book we are reading together. At the moment, that happens to be Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis.

I often share screenshots of these readings on my Instagram or Facebook stories, and I’ll share a few here as well. We’ve launched Facebook and Instagram pages for Wrestling with Wisdom at the Crossroads if you’d like to follow along.

Our publisher, Rose & Pearl Publishing, a Mississippi company, not only embraced this idea but stayed with us through months of determined work to bring it across the finish line. Carolyn Warren Wiley, founder of Rose & Pearl, remained faithful and positive throughout the process. Carolyn, we truly could not have done this book without you. Thank you.

Lastly, Billy and I dedicate and give this project to God. Without His Wisdom and guidance, we would never have found this path. Our number one priority was to create something pleasing to Him. Now we will relish seeing how He uses it to His good purposes.

We already feel blessed simply to hold the book in our hands each morning. If that is as far as it goes, we are good with that. Still, my hope is that through this book, others may be drawn together to read aloud, to reflect, and to wrestle with Wisdom at their own crossroads. And where two or three are gathered together….

Wrestling with Wisdom at the Crossroads is available online at Square Books, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and other booksellers.

We also have signed copies on hand and will have them at our Juke Joint Festival Exhibitor Tent this year. If you’re nearby, Chilly Billy can deliver one in person. Or we’re happy to mail a signed copy directly from him, with shipping included.
(We’re not Amazon. Ha)

Thanks for reading and for watching.

Beautiful job. If I didn’t already have the book, I’d have bought it after watching this video because I’d be dying of curiosity. When I first met Chilly Billy on one of his tours, I sensed something in him that was deeply spiritual but also profoundly down to earth in that I felt some odd kind of truth coming from him. Truth can’t be faked. It either is or it isn’t. I always get feelings about people when I meet them, and knew our chance meeting (along with my friend and travel companion), was not chance at all. God was working behind the scenes as He always does. This book is on my coffee table and I am savoring it. You should do the same. Don’t try to read it all at once. Let it shake you up, as it should. And get ready to go deep. As you go inside the author’s head, you take a guided tour through all of humanity. Nice job, Chilly Billy.

Congratulations Billy & Madge! I want a copy of the book. I can order Amazon, but I’d prefer the hand-delivery option. Let me know what I need to do to make that happen!
