RUST on another Saturday night with the Side Street Steppers
RUST Restaurant on another Saturday night
with the Side Street Steppers
RUST Restaurant and its newly hung artwork by local artists played host last Friday night to the Side Street Steppers from Memphis. This funky little quartet had RUST regulars smiling, swaying, and participating in the eclectic sounds being sung and played table to table.
Members include Ms. Vera Victoria on an array of ukuleles and tambourine; Tennessee Tom C. on the 6-string blues box, resonator guitar, tenor banjo, guit-jo, mandolin, and the infamous kazoo; Mississippi Slim-Pickens on the acoustic upright bass, and Washboard Emmy on the washboard.
Never a dull, silent, or peripatetic moment was witnessed. This fun, funky, out-of-the-box band, reminiscent of Leon Redbone, counts Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Jelly Roll Morton, Charlie Patton, Son House, Tommy Johnson, Robert Johnson, John Hurt, Fred McDowell, Blind Lemon Jefferson, and Bukka White as influences. Enjoy this delightful band performing at RUST! Watch the Video to the right and have a look at the photos below.
