Recently, Leah Bruce-Krock, owner of Colors Agency, sent an email requesting I audition for an American Express®/USGA national television commercial featuring the always flamboyantly dressed professional golfer Rickie Fowler. Oh my goodness!
When I arrived for the audition, all the girls were tall, thin, dark-haired, beautiful, exotic, and wearing black dresses. I am 5’6″, shorter than the lot, felt too “all-American,” and was wearing a very colorful dress. I wasn’t sure I was at the right place. Why did they request me for this audition? Obviously, I am not what they are looking for.
After a very awkward and somewhat embarrassing improvisation in an empty room, where I pretended to greet my friends at a party while delivering food, I felt certain it was a wasted day. Much to my surprise, Colors contacted me that same night saying the client requested me for a call back!
After another drive to Memphis and yet another awkward audition, I was cast to play the “girlfriend” for the Rickie Fowler Play 9 American Express®/USGA television commercial. Over 50 people from New York, LA and Memphis were on the set at Dean Film & Video. I thoroughly enjoyed the behind-the-scenes technical talent, attention to detail, and overall camaraderie.
A national commercial doesn’t come around often in these parts, so I am very grateful to have played a small part in encouraging a new generation of golfers to just Play 9.
