Singing “Right Here at Big Red’s Place” with Heavy Suga and the SweeTones

VIDEO IN POST – A couple Sunday night’s ago at RED’S Lounge in downtown Clarksdale, birthplace, heart of and keeper of the Mississippi Delta blues, Heavy Suga and the SweeTones—Heather Crosse, Lee Williams, and Walt Busby—were jamming with their unique bluesy sound when Red’s compadre, bartender and crooner, David Isaac, but we calls him SPACE COWBOY, sang a song he wrote called, “Right Here at Big Red’s Place.”

The song includes some excellent, catchy vocals and words based on owner Red Paden’s pithy, original sayin’s, such as: “I am backed by the river and fronted by the grave.” True stuff ladies and gentlemens! True Stuff!

REDS BLUES LOUNGE is located on the corner of MLK Blvd. and Sunflower Ave., where it sits high above the gritty Sunflower River and catawampus across the street from the old Grange Cemetery where John Clark, the founder of Clarksdale, is buried. So, when RED says he is backed by the river and fronted by the grave—he ain’t lying even a little—and it can mean so much more! But that is how RED rolls!

Space Cowboy’s fiancée was in attendance that night. Her name is Vernita Gunn. She is from Clarksdale and didn’t know RED’s even existed until the night she met SPACE COWBOY! She was kicking it with some friends at RED’s when he began singing. Her friend Shekida introduced them and the rest is academic. They will be married on June 30^th in Lambert, Mississippi, and the DELTA BOHEMIANS will be in attendance.
