It’s always a tricky enterprise in today’s social media driven culture—rife with endless opportunities to “reach” potential customers—to share wonderful things others say and not appear to be “full of one’s self” or too self-aggrandizing. Tis a fine line to walk for sure….
While the Delta Bohemian® endeavors to never take itself too seriously—we really don’t have a clue what we are doing; we are just doing it, whatever it is—we have been blessed to have had several magazines and other entities recognize, write about and single us out for some much appreciated attention.
Magical Madge and I are just fairly like-minded pilgrims who came from Canterbury and are back from whence we came. We love the Delta, are happy to celebrate it and to be connected with others who are from here, moving here, or visiting in order to hear authentic blues, eat BBQ, or enjoy all the bucolic splendor God uses daily to color this fertile flat land.
The ‘Sip, which just turned one-year-old with its winter edition, is an irresistible, new magazine published four times per year. Headquartered in Vicksburg, the beautifully written, photographed and bound quarterly lives up to its tagline, a sip of life from the most soulful state in the South.
Publisher and editor Lauchlin Fields and photographer Melanie Thortis visited with us recently at our home in Clarksdale, even being willing to take a very chilly Delta Bohemian Pedicab ride downtown. Both ladies really seemed to “get us” and helped us understand ourselves a little better through their article about the Delta.
Also in this edition, The ‘Sip outside editor Nathan Beane penned an enticing piece about his recent 10-day trip down the mighty Mississippi River from Vicksburg to Baton Rouge with our good friends at Quapaw Canoe Company, who are working on the River Gator: a paddler’s guide chronicling the flora, fauna, and island details on the Lower Mississippi River from St. Louis to the Gulf of Mexico. Check it out!
Anytime we hear from folks who might like something we publish on the Delta Bohemian®, it always encourages us. Madge recently heard from a college friend of hers from her days as a theater major at the University of Texas. We are including her email below along with images from the winter edition of The ‘Sip.
