(Clarksdale, Mississippi) PHOTOS and VIDEO in POST!
For some reason, when John Henshall says “Jump,” we Jump!
Henshall, Principal of Essential Economics in Melbourne, our generous host during our trip down under last year, was having another one of his Blues n’ Ribs Party with none other than the Delta’s own Watermelon Slim and Australia’s Fiona Boyes as his live entertainment. What more could you need?
John, totally in love with Clarksdale and the Mississippi Delta, needed some lovin’ from the Delta Bohemians by way of another SHOUTOUT to Australia for all his comrades in the Land of Oz but this time he wanted it from our newly elected Mayor Bill Luckett.
Bill, who is always game when it comes to promoting his beloved home town, didn’t hesitate for a second to also “Jump” at the chance to help out our mutual friend.
Ok, so what next? The Delta Bohemians approached a new task with our usual stance — unrehearsed.

Poor William and I arrived at 121 Sunflower Avenue with iPhones in hand. (No more Canon 7D – some “friend” stole it out of our vehicle.) As we approached the Mayor’s office we found three gents chillin’ outside his door. Somehow, I just knew before they even opened their mouths that they were from Aussie Land; the connection is profound with Clarksdale and Australia.
Not only were these dudes from the lucky country, but we found ourselves extra lucky to see they had cameras in hand, big fancy ones, not unlike our 7D, and friendly, welcoming, and helping-hand hearts.
After a quick intro, we recruited them to help us out with the taping. Yea! They were game. In fact, they were on a trip through the Mississippi Delta to discover more about the Blues for Cinematographer Ryan Hutt’s upcoming documentary titled “Blues Ain’t Blue.”
No script. No plans. Pure spontaneity from all involved. We hope you enjoy the video which features the Mayor plus many Clarksdale and visiting blues musicians.
This little nugget was shown at the Blues n’ Ribs Throwdown for several hundred folks in downtown Melbourne, Australia. Thanks for the love, John Henshall. You are a Delta Bohemian and that’s for damn sure!
